Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading. The video is old and dates back to November 2023.
Outdated Footage Shows Rantisi Children’s Hospital Targeted by Israeli Airstrike
Misbar’s team conducted a reverse image search and found the footage making the rounds to be outdated.
Screenshots from the same video, published in November 2023, show Israeli aircraft bombing the third floor of Rantisi Children’s Hospital, which houses the pediatric department dedicated to screening and diagnosing cancer in minors.
Israeli forces invited press reporters to visit a medical center for children, where a spokeswoman said parts of the basement had been a Hamas “command and control center” and may have been used to hold hostages.
Mohammed Zarqout, who oversees all of Gaza’s hospitals, told CNN over the phone that the basement at Al Rantisi had housed the pharmacy and some of the hospital’s administrative offices before rainwater rendered it “impossible” to use.
He also said the basement had been used as a shelter for women and children, not to store Hamas weapons or hold hostages.
Gaza’s Hospitals Destroyed by Israeli Attacks
A report published by the U.N. Human Rights Office in 2024 found that Israel’s pattern of deadly attacks on and near hospitals in Gaza, and associated combat, pushed the healthcare system to the brink of total collapse, with catastrophic effects on Palestinians’ access to health and medical care.
In May 2025, the World Health Organization said four major hospitals in Gaza — Kamal Adwan Hospital, Indonesian Hospital, Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics, and European Gaza Hospital — had to suspend medical services in the past week due to their proximity to hostilities, evacuation zones, and attacks.
WHO recorded 28 attacks on health care in Gaza during one week last May and 697 attacks since October 2023.
Only 19 of the 36 hospitals in the Gaza Strip remain open, including one that offers rudimentary medical care to patients still there. These hospitals suffer from acute shortages of supplies, a dearth of medical personnel, ongoing instability, and a spike in casualties.
Twelve of the 19 hospitals offer a range of medical services, while the remaining hospitals can only provide minimal emergency care. In the Gaza Strip, at least 94% of all hospitals have been destroyed or severely damaged.
Israeli Strike Kills 20 in Recent Nasser Hospital Attack
On August 25, an Israeli double strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, southern Gaza, killed at least 20 people, including five journalists working for international media.
Four health workers were also killed, the World Health Organization’s chief said.
Footage from the bombing shows a second strike hitting rescuers who had arrived to assist those wounded in the first attack.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the incident as a “tragic mishap” and said military authorities were “conducting a thorough investigation.”
