Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading; the video is outdated.
A reverse search showed that the video had been previously published and does not depict a recent deployment of Iraqi security forces along the Syria border, nor is it connected to recent developments following the Popular Mobilization Forces’ increased presence along the Iraqi-Syrian frontier.
The video appeared on multiple social media accounts on December 3, 2024, with users claiming it showed convoys of border guard forces along the Iraqi-Syrian border at that time.
On the same day, One News broadcast footage showing border guard commanders conducting a military inspection along the Iraqi-Syrian border.
Separately, Al-Iraqiya News HD reported in December that border guard forces had raised their alert level and reinforced control measures to strengthen security along the Syria border.
PMF Reinforces Deployment Along the Iraqi-Syrian Border
The claim circulated after the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced that they had reinforced their presence along the Iraqi-Syrian border to tighten control and prevent potential breaches.
According to a PMF statement, the 25th Brigade strengthened its deployment along the border as part of a plan to support border security and deter infiltration attempts. The statement said the reinforcements included securing several sensitive points in the Tarifawi–Al-Hasakah area.
The PMF added that the deployment is part of a broader security plan designed to support security forces and enhance both intelligence and field operations, contributing to the safety of border regions.
In a follow-up statement, the PMF said a unit from the 10th Brigade had been assigned to help maintain security along Iraq’s western border. Forces from the Rafidain Operations Command deployed to reinforce and secure the border strip, accompanied by the 10th Brigade unit.
The announcement came after Sadrist Movement leader Muqtada Al-Sadr warned of the dangers of handling the ongoing events in Syria “naively,” stressing the importance of protecting borders and crossings and sending reinforcements.
