Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s team at Al Araby TV investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading; the video is outdated and does not show U.S. preparations for military action against Iran.
Outdated Video Shows U.S. Marines Training in California
Misbar’s team found that the video dates to July 16, 2024, and was published by official U.S. sources. It shows U.S. Marine Corps personnel, alongside U.S. Air Force members, conducting forward arming and refueling operations at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin in California.
Tensions Rise After Strait of Hormuz Closure
The circulation of the claim occurs amid ongoing escalation between the United States and Iran and recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz. Washington has announced tighter maritime measures against Iran-linked vessels, including monitoring some and potentially intercepting others, as part of increased economic and military pressure.
In response, Tehran said it has strengthened its control over the strait and warned of further steps if attempts to impose a blockade continue.
In this context, media outlets reported that Iranian armed forces turned back two vessels on Sunday that attempted to cross the Strait of Hormuz after receiving warnings, reflecting rising tensions in one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors.
The United States justifies the measures as part of a deterrence policy aimed at limiting Iranian influence and ensuring the security of international shipping, pointing to military preparations that include naval and air deployments and heightened operational readiness.
Iran, meanwhile, rejects these measures, describing them as a violation of its sovereignty and international law. It says it will respond to any targeting of its interests or vessels, stressing its right to protect its maritime routes and territorial waters.
On military readiness, available indicators suggest both sides are increasing preparedness without any official declaration of intent to launch a full-scale war, while the current calm remains fragile and could quickly collapse amid continued reciprocal pressure.
