To combat disinformation, Misbar’s team adheres to the highest journalistic standards. Additionally, it monitors and collects news from local and international sources; to provide audiences with a unique perspective.
How Did Misbar Start, and How Does it Work?
Misbar was launched in 2019 as a fact-checking unit within Baaz, Inc.'s social media platform. As of the end of 2019, Misbar has become a standalone website, focused on investigating issues that affect MENA's general public.
Misbar is managed by a managing editor, an editorial team, and freelance journalists. There are no restrictions on what we can write about or how the claims should be evaluated. Following best practices, we do this independently.
Ownership and Funding
Misbar is a non-profit website owned by Metafora Production W.L.L. It relies on a team of independent journalists. According to Misbar’s policy, employees may not engage in partisan political activity or contribute to political candidates or lobbying organizations.
To ensure impartiality and independence, Misbar has formed an advisory board of independent experts who will monitor the published material and verify its accuracy, operation, and methodology. To verify news, Misbar follows best practices and methodologies.
Any source we deem a conflict of interest is prohibited from donating to Misbar, including anonymous sources, political parties, elected officials or candidates for public office.
Furthermore, Metafora Artistic Production is not allowed to influence the content or ratings of Misbar. Only Misbar's independent editorial team decides which claims to verify and what to evaluate. Misbar has a separate management and editing team from Metaphora.
