Misbar Tracks U.S. Reconnaissance Aircraft Flight Off Yemen’s Coast

Following the extension of the truce between the United States and Iran, and amid continued field tensions, U.S. military activity in the region has persisted, particularly around Yemen.

In parallel, reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft continue to carry out intelligence-gathering missions.

Flight data from Flightradar24 shows that a U.S. reconnaissance aircraft conducted a mission along Yemen’s southern coast on April 22.

The aircraft, identified by the code “AE688D” and listed as a Boeing P-8A Poseidon, departed from Djibouti at 4 a.m. GMT, flew to the vicinity of the Yemen-Oman border, and then returned to its point of origin.

Flight tracking data indicates the same aircraft conducted a similar mission on April 16, also departing from Djibouti and following a comparable route that extended to Oman’s coast.

Boeing P-8A Poseidon: Capabilities and Missions

The Boeing P-8A Poseidon is a multi-mission aircraft used for maritime surveillance, intelligence gathering and search-and-rescue operations, as well as for detecting and tracking surface and subsurface targets. Its capabilities reflect the types of missions it carries out during such flights.

The activity comes amid rising regional tensions following a speech by Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, leader of Yemen’s Houthi movement, in which he outlined the group’s position on developments linked to Iran and warned of possible escalation if military pressure continues.
