Saudi Civil Defense Issues All-Clear After Air Threat Warning

Saudi Civil Defense issued an all-clear Saturday morning after issuing a second round of warnings in Riyadh and the city of Al Kharj, east of the capital, amid an escalation in Houthi attacks on the kingdom.

The warnings marked the first time the capital had received such alerts since the Houthis in Yemen intensified their attacks on Saudi Arabia. Two explosions were heard in Riyadh’s Al Olaya district.

Witnesses told Agence France-Presse that they saw columns of smoke near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday afternoon.

The Houthis also claimed to have carried out two military operations targeting Saudi Arabia with ballistic and cruise missiles and drones. Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Malki, spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, said Saudi air defenses had thwarted Houthi attempts to target the cities of Taif, Bish and Farasan, as well as Yanbu.

Amid the continued military escalation, U.S. President Donald Trump cut short his weekend stay at Camp David and returned to the White House. Fox News reported that his administration was considering its next steps regarding the war with Iran.
