Emerging story

On April 25, the luxury goods company Richemont announced that the fashion designer Alber Elbaz, who had worked with them since 2019, had died. The statement did not include a cause. Shortly after, fashion journalists and news sources began stating that the designer had died of coronavirus.

Other sources began claiming that Elbaz had died of the South African variant of coronavirus, despite being fully vaccinated. The story spread through social media. Users claimed that the media had been downplaying the fact that he had been vaccinated, with one even speculating that he may have been a “victim” of the vaccine.
