“Delta” In “Delta Variant” Does Not Mean “Deep Sleep”

Since the beginning of the summer, social media users have been sharing the claim that the name for the COVID-19 delta variant comes from the name for delta brain waves, which are associated with deep stage sleep. 

Users sharing this claim say that this confirms their suspicions over the validity of the strain. One user referred to it as a “new scam narrative,” with another claiming, “your injection will put you to sleep.”
