Misleading Claims of Alleged USAID Funding to Politico

Recently, social media users shared a claim alleging that USAID provided funding of over $8 million to Politico, an American political digital newspaper company.

The claim began to circulate after Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt directly addressed Politico at the White House press briefing on Wednesday.

“I have been informed about the funding from USAID to media outlets, including Politico, which has a representative present in this room,” Leavitt stated. “I can confirm that over $8 million of taxpayer money has been used to essentially subsidize subscriptions to Politico at the expense of American taxpayers. This will no longer continue. The DOGE team is currently working on canceling those payments.”
