Hamas Did Not Issue a Statement Welcoming the Bondi Beach Attack

Social media users have circulated posts claiming that Hamas issued a statement following the Bondi Beach shooting, allegedly welcoming the attack. The posts were shared alongside an image showing an armed man with a Palestinian flag pinned to his uniform, next to a woman seated on a dirty floor, her face obscured by her hair and her hands appearing to be tied behind her back.

Users claimed the alleged Hamas statement read: “We welcome the blessed attack in Australia. It was a major and inspiring event that strengthens the resistance worldwide.”

“Reminder that Keir Starmer @keirstarmer RECOGNISED THIS TERRORIST STATE earlier this year,” the Instagram user added. 

“I NEVER want to see another Palestine or Islamic Flag in Australia EVER again,” another user wrote.

Other users linked the alleged statement to Al Jazeera, claiming: “Al Jazeera has quoted Hamas looking for a source to link to.”
