Old Video Compilation Misleadingly Linked to the U.S. Seizure of the Marinera Tanker

Social media users have circulated a video compilation showing missile launches, attacks on marine vessels, and intense explosions involving tankers, misleadingly linking the footage to an alleged first Russian warning response following the U.S. seizure of the Russian-flagged Marinera tanker.

Users also paired the footage with an alleged quote attributed to Aleksey Zhuravlyov, Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma’s Defense Committee.

“First Russian warning response after the piracy on the ‘Marinera’ tanker,” a user wrote on X. 

“Aleksey Zhuravlyov, Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee in the Duma Council: ‘The United States must face a military response—attacking with torpedoes and sinking American ships. This is the way to stop this state of euphoric impunity,’” the user added.

Another user wrote: “BREAKING - In response to the tanker seizure, Russia is threatening the United States with a missile strike.”
